Since being elected to the City Council, I have continually heard from constituents that there is too much traffic on White Rock Trail. We have recently completed traffic surveys in the area and have found that White Rock Trail is handling more than 7,000 vehicles per day, with more than 5,000 vehicles using the park road through Flag Pole Hill to get there. It seems that people use White Rock Trail instead of Audelia to access Kingsley.

We have proposed two solutions. We will probably make the section of White Rock Trail that goes through Flag Pole Hill one way south bound from Lanshire to Doran Circle. At Doran Circle, there will be a “right turn only” so you will not be able to turn left and go south on Buckner.

In addition to this, I have also asked staff for two more stop signs on White Rock Trail, one at Goforth and one at Clearhurst.

The second option is to just close White Rock Trail at Lanshire and deny any access into or out of the park from White Rock Trail.

Should the first option not show the benefit we are looking for, we will probably try option two.

I hope everyone’s summer goes well. As we get back to work on City Council in August, the budget will be priority No. 1. If you have any questions about the budget, please look for a town hall meeting at the end of August or beginning of September.

Please attend this meeting, because you can influence our $1 billion budget! I will be sending out notices, but if you don’t receive one, please call my office at 214-670-4068 and let my assistant, Patricia Anderson know, so we can add you to our mailing list.

Also, just a reminder: July is here, and I hope you’ll participate in the Exchange Club-City of Dallas Park and Recreation Department Fourth of July parade. Meet at the North Highlands Bible Church on Church Road across from the high school tennis courts.

The parade is for kids of all ages to decorate their bikes, wagons or most anything with wheels in red, white and blue for this patriotic event. Prizes are awarded in different age groups, so spare no ingenuity.

After the parade, everyone is invited for free soft drinks and a carnival in the shade trees in the park.

This is a great Lake Highlands tradition, so don’t miss it – even if you just stand on the side.
