Neighborhood resident Stephen Baker says his job is all about people.
“It’s not all the Rambo stuff that matters. It’s all about helping somebody out,” says Baker, a Dallas Police officer.
His sentiments are appreciated by his peers, who recently elected Baker the Dallas Police Department’s Rookie of the Year.
Baker has been with the Northeast Police Department for the past two years, and he was excited about the plaque presented to him by Police Chief Ben Click, along with a gift certificate to a gun shop.
“I take pride in what I do, and I treat people with respect,” Baker says. “You treat someone with respect; you get respect.”
Baker patrols the Greenville area on the night shift and says the area offers a little bit of everything.
It’s exciting. There are bars, clubs, restaurants and apartments to patrol,” Baker says.
Growing up in a military family, Baker has lived throughout the country and says Dallas is one of his favorite cities.
“Dallas has a lot of activity and great weather,” says Baker, who is a member of the Dallas Police Association and the Combined Law Enforcement Association of Texas.
Before arriving in Dallas, Baker played football for the University of Utah in Salt Lake City and then went on to join the Army for the next four years.
