The Dallas Farmers Market is getting a new look as fresh as our fruits and vegetables. We are nearing our Jan. 31 completion date of a three-year, $10 million-plus renovation.
When done, the Farmers Market will boast a new Market Resource Center. Additional parking areas will make shopping more convenient for the 5 million customers who visit the Market each year.
Shed 2, located in the front of the Market, will greet visitors with its delicious gourmet products. Lush landscaping, street improvements, underground utility systems and an outdoor Food Pavilion with trees and seating areas will make each visitor’s shopping experience even more pleasurable.
The new facilities and the Cesar Chavez Plaza will be publicly dedicated March 18, and all of our loyal and potential customers are welcome to come and enjoy the festivities.
The Market Resource Center will house new staff offices, conference rooms, public facilities, the Farmers Market gift shop and a state-of-the-art demonstration kitchen. The kitchen will be home to our very popular Chefs’ Cooking Class Series.
The series has a loyal following and boasts some of the finest chefs creating their culinary magic using the fruits and vegetables of the Market. Future classes and series are being scheduled in the kitchen for the 1995 season.
The gift shop, which is currently being named through a contest, will open in the spring and will bring the charm of the country back to the City with its unique Texas products.
When you think of the Dallas Farmers Market, you think of cheesecake, breads and gourmet coffee, right? Probably not. We are better known for our fruits and vegetables, but our Shed 2 has added a unique twist to your produce shopping list.
Customers will want to visit the only walk-through, enclosed shed specifically designed for specialty vending. Delicious, Texas-made cheeses, herbs, breads, salsas, prize-winning jams and mustards, dried fruit and nut mixes and fresh, no-preservative bagels can all be bought in Shed 2.
The specialty vendors can be found at the Market on the weekends, enticing passers-by to sample their tempting delicacies. For information about your favorite vendor, call 670-5879.
In addition to gourmet products, Shed 2 will host our special events. Festivals scheduled this year include the annual Spring Market Festival, Peach, Blueberry, Watermelon, Pepper, Fall Harvest and Holiday Market. Handmade arts and crafts and entertainment make every festival an experience not to missed.
The chill of winter is all the more reason to come to the Dallas Farmers Market to select the perfect vegetable medley to create that hearty stew or to buy a beautiful bushel of apples to make a warm cobbler.
The Farmers Market is located at 1010 S. Pearl. We are open seven days a week, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., closed Christmas and New Year’s Day.
