“It’s been a big, big hit,” says Chuck Kelly, executive producer of Metro Sports. “Tons of Wildcat fans have been listening. I think it is cool that they are so appreciative of a broadcast.”

Each broadcast begins at 7 p.m. with the pregame show, featuring interviews with two Lake Highlands players and the opposing coach, Kelly says. At 7:15, Coach Zoffuto comes on the air to discuss game strategy.

The post-game show features game highlights, a Star-of-the-Game and a complete statistical recap.

Lake Highlands joins Plano, McKinney and Dallas as school districts in the Metroplex with season-long coverage via Metro Sports.

Kelly says Lake Highlands needed and deserved coverage.

“Lake Highlands’ people have been asking me for it,” he says.

Casa Linda Celebrates Its Golden Anniversary

This month marks the 50th anniversary of Casa Linda Plaza shopping center.

The center, located on three of the four corners at Garland and Buckner, will celebrate the milestone Oct. 15. Festivities will include a petting zoo, character drawing and a time capsule burial, says Joan Buchanan, chair of the Casa Linda Merchants Association. Shuttle buses will be available to transport patrons from each section of the center.

A museum will also be set up featuring paraphernalia from the 1940s and World War II, Buchanan says. It will be open Oct. 12-15 from noon-5 p.m. each day in a space between Eckerd and Pier One.

The oldest tenant at the center is the Mobil Station, followed closely by El Fenix Mexican Restaurant and Buchanan’s Maddox Dress Shop.
