For one Lake Highlands mother, writing the book “Kampus Kwestions” was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. For another, it validated a strong personality trait. Another says it has been an economic savior.
And it all began with a phone call.
A new college freshman was trying frantically to phone her Mom, but there was no answer. Detecting panic, the telephone operator asked if she could help.
“Please,” urged the collegiate. “Do you know how to bake a potato?”
The result is a new book, “Kampus Kwestions,” a how-to tool for leaving the nest.
It’s authors, Shirley Marus, Sheryl Jackson and Tina Cradduck experienced college mom, the three decided to write the book.
“These kids would call home at anytime of the day or night – long distance – and ask the most ridiculous questions,” Cradduck says. “The phone bills were out of sight.”
Marus says she is a compulsive list maker, and writing the book was a snap.
“The hard part is marketing the book,” she says.
The three have incorporated, STS (Shirley, Tina, Sheryl) Instructional Press, and believe in their idea so strongly they have financed the publication themselves.
“Kampus Kwestions,” $9.99, offers tips and checklists about planning and making a move, laundry, safety, money, getting organized, auto advice and, of course, baking a potato. The book is available in area bookstores or by contacting STS Instructional Press Inc. at P.O. Box 820968, Dallas, TX 75382-0968. Include $2.50 for shipping and handling.
