Just when you’re feeling pretty environmentally friendly and all your recycling efforts are running smoothly, an inconvenience occurs.
For those of you who already recycle mixed paper, United Paper’s relocation is not welcomed news. Even though their new address at 9233 Denton Drive is no longer around the corner, they will still accept mixed paper and newspapers as before. Call them at 358-1533 for more information.
If you don’t recycle all your paper, you should give it a try. This will significantly reduce the amount of garbage you throw out.
Now I know you’re thinking – Denton Drive? United Paper’s new location is a valid concern and one that finally inspired me to consider our only curbside alternative. After checking with two private recycling pickup companies, I’m convinced. There are obvious advantages to this concept and the monthly fees seem reasonable – especially considering the various stops you have to make if you are at all earnest about recycling.
Enterprise Recycling costs $8 monthly and pickups are every two weeks. Just call Jerry Napier at 265-7840 and tell him you would like to begin service. He will pick up for the first month, then bill you. Months that include five pickups will be $4 extra.
Items accepted include: newspapers with slicks; mixed paper (junk mail, magazines, phone books, brochures, computer/office paper, cardboard/chipboard); glass; aluminum (cans, foil, trays); #1 and #2 plastic bottles; soft plastic-like dry cleaning bags; tin cans; and Styrofoam.
Pickups can be at the front curb, alley, or garage. Newspapers and mixed paper should be separated into brown paper grocery sacks. All other recyclables can be put into plastic bags. Pickup dates are scheduled opposite your trash collection days.
Full Circle Recycling charges $9.95 plus tax monthly ($10.77) and pickups are every two weeks. The charge is the same for months that include those extra pickups. Aris Tsamis and Chris Dukeminier can be reached at 247-2534. Call to schedule service, and they will deliver a 20-gallon plastic can (returnable if you discontinue service) along with recycling instructions. You may use your own waterproof containers for additional recycling. Larger, 32-gallon plastic containers with wheels may be purchased for $29.95 plus tax.
Items accepted include: newspapers with slicks; mixed paper (junk mail, magazines, phone books, brochures, computer/office paper, cardboard/chipboard); glass; aluminum; #1 and #2 plastic bottles; and tin cans.
Pickup is made at the front curb. Your scheduled pickup date might coincide with your garbage days, which would only be a bother if you have front curb trash collection. In this case, just keep your recycling and garbage containers clearly separate.
