It’s been a frustrating year for coach Tracy Hurst in her second year at the helm of the Lake Highlands volleyball program.
Hurst is frustrated not because her team lacks talent or effort, but because injuries that have hobbled nearly half the squad.
“I think we need a team doctor more than anything else,” Hurst says. “Once we get some of these girls back, we should be even more competitive. And considering that we only have one senior on the entire team, next year we’ll be even better.”
Six players have suffered various injuries, including Mary Pinkerton, Tamara Shulman, Jana Podhrasky, Liz Preskitt, Kim Temblador and Shannon Brooks.
Hurst praises the play of Chenoah Lofton, a transfer from Desoto, and sophomore Erin Aldrich, perhaps her best leapers on the team, as well as Laura McClendon and Stacy Allen. The team has posted a 5-6 record despite the injuries.
