The Lake Highlands High School class of 1973 had its reunion recently at the Marriott Quorum in Addison. The award for the alum who traveled the longest distance undoubtedly went to Norman Adami. Norman and his wife, Leslie, came from their native Johannesburg, South Africa, to join in the festivities.
During Norman’s senior year in high school, he participated in a foreign exchange program for high school students and spent the 1972-’73 school year at Lake Highlands.
Norman lives in Johannesburg on a ranch with his wife and two children, Kelly, 8, and Simon, 4. He is a regional director of S.A. Breweries.
Another 1973 grad who has lived in South Africa (and now resides in Atlanta) is Layne Heister Stabler. She and her husband, John, lived in South Africa for two years and knew Norman and Les. Often, they dined together with a third couple.
When Layne returned to the U.S. and moved into her home in Atlanta, she happened to run into the third couple they had met at the Adami’s in South Africa. This couple had moved from Johannesburg to the United States and moved in right around the corner from Layne and John.
On the Tour
We recently caught up with Russell Beiersdorf (’84), currently playing on the pro golf tour.
Russell attended SMU on a golf scholarship after graduating from Lake Highlands. After SMU, Russell played three years on the Ben Hogan tour. The Hogan tour is golf’s answer to baseball’s minor leagues. The Hogan tour is designed to prepare exceptional players for the tougher and more lucrative PGA Tour.
Only the top money winners have the chance to move on to the big time, and Russell has achieved that honor. As a matter of fact, Russell has won nearly $100,000 this year.
Russell still lives in Lake Highlands, but his mom, Judy, says he is never home because of his career. He does, however, have time for his fiancée, Julie Brice. They have announced their engagement and are getting married in November.
Married with Children….
Melanie Nichol Mathies (’78) and her husband, Rick (’77) are raising their two children in Lake Highlands. Rick is a landscaper and owns Rick’s Mow and Grow, an area landscaping company. Melanie is an auditor in Probate Court 3.
Two other graduates who have married and live in Lake Highlands with their three children are Lisa Martin Jenneman and Tom Jenneman (both ’78). Lisa is a homemaker, and Tom is a real estate manager for Brinker International, the company that owns Chili’s restaurants.
Odds and Ends
Summer is an extremely busy time for Dick Wyatt (’75). Dick owns and manages Northlake Pool Service in Lake Highlands. His company builds, services and maintains swimming pools in the area. Dick is married to Tammi and they have three boys, Corey, 11, Craig, 7, and Cale, 5.
If you need straightening out, see Maureen Martin (’86). Maureen attended and graduated from Parker Chiropractic College in Dallas and recently has opened her new office, Casa Linda Chiropractic Clinic, at 1212 Tavaros. She has had many of the Dallas Cowboys as patients and still sees patients at several other Dallas area clinics.
