Residents of Lake Highlands now have another place to shop for groceries. Minyard’s opened its first area store Aug. 13.

“Lake Highlands was definitely in need of another grocery store,” says Debbie Bosco, a Lake Highlands resident. “There were not enough choices.”

The Minyard’s is located on the former Albertson’s site at Kingsley and Audelia.

“We recognized a need in the Lake Highlands area for a neighborhood store that offered a full-service menu to its customers,” says Liz Minyard, co-chairman of the board. “This was a golden opportunity to serve an area of the Metroplex where there was no presence of a Minyard’s, while giving the local neighborhood a store that will provide special amenities.”

The store features a pharmacy, bakery, deli with sit-down area, expanded produce department, full-service seafood counter, video department, floral department, a small coffee bar and Moose Brother’s pizza to eat in or take out.

“The pizza is absolutely wonderful, and I really like the organic produce that they offer,” says Beverly Banister of Lake Highlands.

Minyard’s has hired security guards to patrol the parking lot and doubled the number of parking-lot lights, store spokesmen say.
