Get started on those New Year’s resolutions this weekend with volunteering, reading and live music

The Lake Highlands Junior High PTA will be planting trees on January 13 from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. as part of their beautification project. Volunteers are needed.

The husband and wife duo, Ordinary Elephant, return home to Texas to perform songs from their acclaimed sophomore album, “Before I Go,” at Uncle Calvin’s Coffeehouse on January 12. The folk singers use only a guitar, banjo and well-crafted harmonies to create a captivating sound. Tickets are $15-$18.

Join Moss Haven Farm for their 5th annual MLK service day on January 14 from 1-4 p.m. Help get the farm prepped for 2018 by harvesting crops, helping with hen chores and tidying up the sheds. Bring your own tools and snacks will be provided.

White Rock Elementary students will be showcasing their art at White Rock Coffee through February 1 so stop by any day between 5-8 p.m. to support local budding artists.

For the Love of the Lake hosts their monthly “Second Saturday” clean up at White Rock Lake Park. This month, FTLOTL is teaming up with Dallas REI to provide hot chocolate to volunteers as they check in at the main office. Volunteers will head to the park at 8 a.m. on January 13 to remove litter and debris from the shoreline.
