Fresh off the heels of his Cannes Festival debut as a star in the Australian drama, The Rover, Scoot McNairy, Lake Highlands class of ’96, is enjoying a bit of buzz for his role in AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire, which premiered last Sunday.

The period drama drew an audience of 1.2 million viewers on Sunday, and television critics have been busy since analyzing the show. One critic says McNairy gave a “strong performance,” and another says that McNairy’s character has “just the right blend of quenched spirit/whirring brain.” Some are even calling the show “appealingly Mad Men-ish.”

In addition to watching McNairy star in Halt and Catch Fire on AMC Sundays at 9 p.m., look for the Lake Highlands grad to have a couple big screen appearances in the months ahead. He’s in the aforementioned film The Rover (which comes out nationally June 20) and come October you can catch McNairy in Gone Girl, starring Ben Affleck.

Read tales from McNairy’s youth in Lake Highlands and how he caught the acting bug in this interview with Chris Vognar over on GuideLive.
