Why am I letting you know about these summer classes in the spring? It’s because last year these classes typically filled up at least a week in advance, so you’ll want to sign-up ASAP.

The Jam Jam

On May 17 from 3-5 p.m., Kathy Neumuller from JJ&B Jellies will teach students how to make two jars of preserves using seasonal fruit.

Soda and Sauerkraut

On June 7 from 10 a.m.-noon, make your own root beer soda and natural sauerkraut with Lisa Staffelbach from 24 Carrot Health. Everyone goes home with samples of what was made in class.

Hugelkultur Horticulture at White Rock Local Garden

On June 8 from 9 a.m.-noon, Heather Rinaldi from Texas Worm Ranch teaches how to use twigs, branches, logs and leaves and make a hugelkultur bed. Students will learn the biology of a nutrient rich garden, as they build a “carbon sink” garden – a method that will grow into a fertile and water – efficient bed within a couple of seasons, allowing you to grow fruit, herbs, flowers and vegetables

Salsa Soiree

On June 14 from 10 a.m.-noon, make batches of salsa with Carol Castillo of Cita’s Salsa. Castillo will teach students how to make two kinds of salsa, and everyone takes home a jar of each.

Pickling Party

On June 21 from 10 a.m.-noon make two kinds of pickles with expert pickler James Felps from In A Pickle Foods. Everyone goes home with 2 kinds of pickles made in class.

Click here to register; cost is $30 per class or $100 for all five; all classes except for Hugelkultur Horticulture meet at Gecko Hardware.
