Three neighborhood businesspeople were honored recently by the Greater East Dallas Chamber as part of the group’s annual business awards luncheon. Keynoted by U.S. Rep. Jeb Hensarling, the chamber selected three winners from among nominations from members and neighborhood residents.

Honored as the Hensarling Business of the Year was Nick Chamberlain with Chamberlain Studios of Self Defense. Entrepreneur of the Year honors went to Shea Boothe-Wood of True Beauty Rx. Presented with the Chairman’s Award was Dr. Chuck Kobdish with Backmenders Chiropractic with Care.

Upcoming Chamber events include a ribbon cutting for one of our advertisers, Tommy’s Terrific Car Wash at 5021 Ross Sept. 6 at 5:30 p.m. I stopped by last week for Tommy’s opening, and one thing I noticed that makes this car wash different from others is the large number of vacuum stations; they are literally everywhere.

Other Chamber events include the group’s annual Economic Summit, scheduled Oct. 16 at Royal Oaks Country Club and featuring speakers Jeff Fegan, CEO of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport; Steve Brown, business writer with the Dallas Morning News; and Michael Morris with the North Central Council of Governments. Tickets for this event are $60 in advance, and sponsorship opportunities abound.

Also, you’ve probably heard about the MEET! East Dallas, which brings together a number of neighborhood groups, including the Chamber, Thursday, Sept. 13, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at The Point building at C.C. Young. Cost for this event is $5 per person, and it’s completely informal and designed to let you wander around and talk with people. My wife and I attended the last MEET! event, and I saw so many people I knew that I had no voice left at the end of the evening. Whether you’re in business, want to be in business or just want to meet people in the neighborhood and check out The Point Center for Arts and Education, C.C. Young’s activities building, $5 is a small price to pay for the opportunity. And the proceeds benefit neighborhood groups.

For information about any of these programs, visit the Chamber’s website or call 214-328-4100.
