At last night’s LHAIA meeting (read more in the previous post by Christina Hughes Babb) I was not surprised that some concerned citizens voiced disapproval about plans for an apartment complex, but I was a little surprised at the lengths they went with their comments. One commenter, after enumerating a long list of reasons why the project would fail, also threw in the threat of voracious mosquitos at the site, as if that would be the final deal breaker to scare off the developers.

Another commenter made the point that she believes our neighborhood is more like Highland Park than developers seem to believe.  “We want zero lot line housing and we want it to be expensive,” she said, and cited the success of the White Rock Addition at Audelia and Walnut Hill, where these types of homes have already pre-sold. She told the developers they should “let us remain a growing, wealthy neighborhood.”

So who’s right? Is the property a wasteland prowled by killer mosquitos—or can we, the wealthy elite of Lake Highlands, keep the scourge of undesirable development away from Northwest Highway?
