Kris Oliver is a Richardson ISD board member, and also a member at Prestoncrest Church of Christ in Preston Hollow. As part of their Project Samaria initiative, Prestoncrest members spent time at Wallace Elementary in Lake Highlands yesterday to give shoes to nearly 100 students who are Burmese refugees — a need brought to Prestoncrest’s attention by Oliver, according to the blog of preaching minister Gordon Dabbs.

“These children belong to families evacuated from the refugee camps and placed in Dallas,” Dabbs says on his blog, soulvenue. “Their families have virtually nothing. They live far below the poverty line. … Thanks to all who bought the shoes. Thanks to the teachers and administration at Wallace who see their work as more a ministry than a job. Also, thanks to the volunteers from Prestoncrest who served the children face-to-face this morning.”

Oliver told fellow board member and Lake Highlands resident Luke Davis about yesterday’s events, and Davis witnessed the gifting at Wallace. Thanks to him for sharing the news and sending us the video link.
