The spacious dine-in or take-out Moon Wok, which features a sushi bar, is now open at Skillman-Royal.
I tried out the new asian-food joint, Moon Wok, last night.
Long ago, I took note of the nod-to-pop-king name, but didn’t look forward to anything particularly unique or exciting in the way of food, as far-eastern fare is ubiquitous in Northeast Dallas.
It’s better than I hoped — the menu is more along the lines of Zato, a restaurant just a few doors down that features sushi and Thai fare, than the fast-food type stuff I expected.
Moon Wok offers a casual, diner-esque atmosphere (though it does feature a sushi bar) while Zato is intimate and a bit more upscale in ambiance (also with a sushi bar).
The prices at Moon Wok resemble fast-food prices: $4.99 lunch specials and chef specials ranging from $6.35 (for veggie dishes such as #26 broccoli with garlic sauce) to $9.25 (for a gigantic #55 thai curry shrimp dinner).
The sign at the register reads, “We sell plenty of food at a good price.” It’s true. I took home enough food to feed a small village for $26. Oh. And if it’s your first visit, let ’em know and they will throw in a free egg roll (my kids declared them the “o my gawd best egg rolls ever”).
On the other side of the center, next door to LH Media in the old Burger Spot spot, Cowboy Style Philly’s has announced that they are “coming soon!”
