What happens when a neighborhood school nurse comes across dozens of patients who have no insurance but need medical care? In the case of Lake Highlander Janna Gardner, it resulted in the birth of Healing Hands Ministries, a medical and dental clinic for the poorest in our community. Gardner talks with us on this week’s podcast about how the nonprofit came to be, as well as how much it has grown in four years.

With all the talk about health care these days, we also discussed with Gardner how the clinic is able to reduce emergency room and inpatient hospital costs by offering preventative care. She tells us stories of specific patients whose lives have been changed because of Healing Hands Ministries.

Want to help? Healing Hands always accepts donations and welcomes volunteers — medical professionals as well as administrative help. Gardner also tells us about the Mother’s Day weekend Tablescapes fundraiser — a fun way to benefit a good cause.
