Did you know that – right here in Lake Highlands – we have an Oscar winner in our midst?!?

Brad Walker, father of LHHS senior Eileen and sophomore Brian, won his Academy Award for science and technology with a team of three others at Texas Instruments. Brad, Scott Dewald, Bill Werner and Greg Pettitt were recognized for “design and refinement of the Texas Instruments DLP Projector technology,” which permits movie directors to immediately view what they’ve just filmed in full color.

A total of 15 technical and science/technology awards were announced recently, with the awards dinner and presentation taking place in Hollywood on February 20. Brad’s wife, Linda, told me the entire family will make the trek and attend the event at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

It’s a safe bet that Eileen will be eating it up with a spoon. She’s a budding actress, starring in LHHS’ production of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) which opens tonight (Thursday) at 7 pm. Evening performances continue Friday and Saturday, with a Saturday matinee at 2 pm. Praised by the LA Times as “wildly funny,” the show is billed as “all 37 plays in 97 minutes – an irreverent, fast-paced romp through the Bard’s plays” and ran in London for 10 years.

No word yet on who will present Brad’s award. Last year’s event was hosted by Hollywood actress Jessica Biel, girlfriend of Justin Timberlake. Congratulations Brad on your achievement and your recognition.
