If you are looking for a meaningful gift for someone who loves Lake Highlands and enjoys supporting LH kids, consider making a donation to the John Stallings Scholarship Fund in honor of friends and family this year. John Stallings was a 1986 LHHS graduate and member of the pop choral group Espree who was killed in an auto accident in 1987. John ran track and was a high-achieving student, but his deepest love was for singing in the choir.

John’s parents established the scholarship in his memory, given each year to an LH choir student demonstrating musical excellence, school involvement, leadership traits and outstanding character. To date, more than $53,000 has been given in $500 or $1000 scholarships to students heading off to colleges all over the United States. Last year’s recipients were Lauren Barry and Rebecca Rutledge, and in 2008 Jasmine Bell, Claire Daniels, Lyndsey Jones, and Yingsong Kaping earned the honor.

This year, friends of Sid Davis are especially invited to donate in his memory. Sid, you’ll recall, is the LH dad who died of swine flu earlier this year. He was also a standout in his church choir, and all three of his children – Kitty, Robin and Tim – have been members of Espree and other LH area choirs. You can contribute to the John Stallings Scholarship by emailing Meg Henderson here.
