A few thoughts heading into tonight’s football game with Mesquite Horn:

1. I have a feeling this game is going to be a lot closer than many people think. Because Mesquite Horn was just 4-7 last season, a lot of people are underrating the Jaguars. You don’t beat Arlington Martin 35-7 without having something extra in your tank. For Horn, that’s QB Emory Miller. LH counters with another top area QB In Ricky Zorn. It’s not really "Zorn vs. Horn"- a lot of players on both sides will have an impact – but at least it sounds good.

2. KDFW Fox 4 should be at the game tonight. When the polls closed Thursday night on their Fox HiLites poll, LH-Horn had a 5,000-vote lead on Stephenville-Guyer. However, don’t expect a lot of shots of LH people, other than the players, since this is a Horn home game.

3. For those not familiar, E.H. Hanby Stadium is on the campus of Mesquite High School. If you’re looking for directions, just look for how to get to Mesquite High School. I usually take LBJ to the Scyene/Miltary Parkway exit, hang a left on Military Parkway – which becomes Davis St. as you go through downtown Mesquite – and the stadium is on the right.

4. Let’s hope we have a game tonight. Last night Garland, LH’s next opponent, had its game cancelled because of a thunderstorm. Garland and Duncanville didn’t even get halfway through the second quarter before the game was stopped and then ultimately cancelled. That doesn’t give LH coaches much to scout from, and Garland looked a little shaky with two turnovers. Garland’s offense seemed to be getting warmed up just as the game was stopped.

Here’s a tip: If next Thursday’s game at Garland’s Williams Stadium also gets cancelled by weather, don’t expect to get your money back. Legendary Garland athletic director Homer B. Johnson isn’t keen on refunds.

5. If the internet gremlins don’t get us, I’ll be blogging tonight’s game from Hanby. If you can’t be there – and you better have a note or it’s an unexcused absence – we’d love to have you join us on the blog.
