RISD trustee Kim Caston will not seek a sixth term.
Kim Caston, the long-serving member of Richardson ISD’s current board of trustees, has announced she will not seek another term.
Caston shared her decision at Monday night’s board meeting.
“To be a Richardson ISD trustee, this has been the work of a lifetime, but it is not the work for a lifetime. So, it is with confidence in the robust academic programs and initiatives we have in place and this board’s and Dr. Stone’s leadership for the future, I have decided to not seek a 6th term as an RISD school board trustee in either open position.”
Caston, who currently serves as treasurer on the board and formerly served as president, was first elected in 2007. She began her work as a Richardson ISD volunteer serving as sign chair for her son’s elementary school PTA.
“I’ve spoken about the ‘specialness of the RISD,’” said Caston, “which is, in large part, the appreciation of the legacy of educators who came before us. Each of us, school board trustees, superintendents, administrators, teachers; we stand on their shoulders – and we commit to do our best for what we have been called to do in our time.”
Caston leaves open the single member District 1 seat for RISD’s northwest quadrant serving Pearce and Richardson High Schools. The 2021 election will signal completion of RISD’s transition to a 5-2 system of representation.
Lake Highlands neighbor Jean Bono has also announced she will not run again in May. Richardson City Councilmember Steve Mitchell has filed to run for her at-large spot.
The deadline to file for the May 1st election is Feb. 12.
