Molly Godlewski, an eighth grader at St. Patrick in Lake Highlands (and daughter to one of the Advocate’s featured Christmas Crafters, Kim Godlewski) is a finalist in a regional American Idol-type competition called Searching for a Star.
Many cities are represented in the contest, but Molly is the only kid from Dallas. This past weekend Molly progressed to the second round with her rendition of “I was Country when Country Wasn’t Cool” (in a 80s Country Hits-themed segment of the competition).
The winner of the Wylie-based vocal competition gets $1000, plus $500 for their school’s music program. In past years, winners have traveled to Atlanta, GA to record in a music studio, proud mom Kim Godlewski says.
“Molly just loves singing and is learning a lot from the course and contest.”
Godlewski is hopeful about her daughter’s chances, though there is a ton of talented competition.
“She has as much chance to win as others, but there are so many great singers and she is just one,” she says.
The next elimination round is this Friday, May 21, in which Molly will have to perform a “dance hit of the 80s”.
