Dan Levy with Moira

Artist Anna Brindley was wrapping up one of her watercolors and preparing to mail it to a friend when she realized she was short on stamps. The wife of Lake Highlands High soccer coach Hanes Brindley admits it was a crazy day having both daughters home from school due to the coronavirus pandemic, but she’d been challenged by daughter Arabella to create one painting a day, and she was determined to “do her art.”

Suddenly, Brindley discovered a message on Instagram. Dan Levy, writer and star of TV’s Schitt’s Creek, wanted to purchase the watercolor – a painting of “Moira Rose,” his co-star Catherine O’Hara on the show.

“OMG, this still seems like a dream,” Brindley told me after sending the painting to Los Angeles and then seeing an Instagram photo of Levy holding it. “He said he’d be honored to hang it on his wall and that I captured Moira’s spirit so beautifully. He is the nicest, kindest person ever. He was so fun to message with, as you can imagine.”

Dan Levy is the son of screenwriter Deborah Devine and legendary actor Eugene Levy, star of “Splash,” “Best in Show,” “American Pie” and a host of other hilarious films. Catherine O’Hara, who starred with Levy in “Waiting for Guffman” and “A Mighty Wind,” played Kate McCallister in “Home Alone.”

Days after the sale, Brindley says she’s still pinching herself.

“It’s like a good dream in a pandemic. My sister, Julie Hamm, made sure he saw it because she, too, is a huge Schitt’s Creek fan. When I wrote him back I think I said, ‘Omgoodness, is this for real’ or something totally geeky like that.”

Schitt’s Creek, which wrapped this month after 6 seasons, is the ideal show to stream while sheltering-in-place, Brindley says.

“If you haven’t experienced Schitt’s Creek yet, now would be a great time because laughter doeth good like a medicine. Dan Levy doesn’t just have incredible comedic timing, he also co-created this with his dad, and his sister is in it, too. The cast dynamics are like nothing ever. It just makes you wish you were on set with them.”
