Del Rey Village Apartments burned overnight, leaving 50 residents homeless

An overnight fire at the Del Rey Village Apartments near Walnut Hill and Plano Road has displaced about 50 residents, destroying 4 units and heavily damaging 4 more. No one was injured.

The fire, which began about 2:30 a.m. Friday morning, awoke residents of the Wickersham Road complex, who began going door-to-door with responding firefighters to help rouse their neighbors. Flames could be seen from LBJ Freeway.

Dallas firefighters will monitor hot spots today. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

RISD officials are working to determine if any families are in need of assistance. We’ll let you know if we hear of ways you can help.
