Best Booth: Dances with Wolf Brand
Lake Highlands High School football coach Lonnie Jordan has seen some fierce competition in his years on the gridiron, but he ain’t seen nothing like a bunch of parents fighting for the “Best Chili” title in Lake Highlands.
Jordan was joined at the Lake Highlands Junior High PTA Chili Cook Off judges’ table Saturday by Andrew Hamilton, a veteran of the legendary Terlingua competition, Darren Williams, two-time champion of Moss Haven Elementary’s cook off, Frank Gomez, winner of Wallace Elementary’s cook off and Carrie Breedlove, LHJH principal. They even let this blogger do a little tasting.
Entries at the Oak Highlands Breweries event competed on smell, taste, texture and aftertaste, but the fundraiser was about more than just chili. Participants also chose a theme, decorated their booth and dressed in costume.
Congratulations to the winners: Dances with Wolf Brand won Best Booth, Dead Chili was named Best OHB Beer in Chili and Chilifest earned Best Chili honors.
Funds raised will benefit students at LHJH.

Best OHB Beer in Chili: Dead Chili

Best Chili: Chilifest

The Fargo team had fun with the theme.

Fartnite, based on the video game, was a fan favorite.
