When Forest Meadow Junior High PTA volunteers began making plans for their 35th annual Market in the Meadow fundraiser, they recruited more than 100 perennial favorites to return Oct. 20 and 21 as vendors. Next, they scoured markets and fairs to find new merchants to bring the latest and most creative food, clothing, jewelry and gift items to share.

I twisted planners’ arms (a little) and got the scoop on what’s new at this year’s market. Here are just a few.

Sweetie’s Cheesecakes, made in Fort Worth, come in personal 3-inch jars. They’re jazzed up with flavors like pumpkin, strawberry and – my favorite – chocolate ganache. Moonlight Threads creates game day spirit wear embellished with school logos or pithy sayings. Hope’s Gate is a nonprofit offering jewelry and gifts handmade by people at-risk of exploitation. Many clients are orphans and victims of human trafficking.

Small Pockets carries high end children’s new and consignment clothing and maternity consignment items. They offer monogramming on goods like bloomers, bibs and burp cloths. Brazilian Chef makes gluten free, sugar free and soy free cheese bread. Flavors include traditional, jalapeno or garlic. Organic Glam Designs creates one-of-a-kind agate cuff bracelets.

Sassy Bubbles sells shower steamers and bubble bath truffles with scents like mango mandarin and lavender pomegranate. Their Rubber Duckie bath bombs float on the water and dissolve scents so delicious you’ll never come out of the bath.

After a day of shopping, you’ll find lunch items in the Charger Café and homemade sweet treats at the bake sale.

Entertainment will be provided throughout the day by FMJH, LHJH and LHHS bands, choirs, drill teams and dance teams.

Market in the Meadow will be held Oct. 20 (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) and 21 (11 a.m. -5 p.m.) at FMJH, 9373 Whitehurst at Abrams Road. Admission and parking are free.
