The Hat Creek play yard

Hat Creek Burger Company began 10 years ago as a food trailer in Austin, but they opened their 11th full-size restaurant yesterday – their first in Dallas. The casual, order-at-the counter spot features shaded patio seating and a playground for the kiddies. On the menu is the carb-lovers triumvirate – French fries, sweet potato fries and tater tots – and never-frozen burgers. (For a single patty burger, order the Little Hat. You’ll get a double patty with the Big Hat.)

Hat Creek is the newest addition to The Hill at Walnut Hill and I-75, joining veteran restaurants Nazca Kitchen and Red Hot and Blue, along with newcomers Tacodeli and Unleavened. Luna Grill and Snooze A.M. are coming soon, and neighbors are hoping Snooze will replace the much-missed Crossroads Diner for the breakfast set.

Hat Creek serves breakfast beginning at 7 a.m. and, when their liquor license is approved, will serve wine and beer.
