Start spreading the news – the LHHS Highlandettes are going to New York, New York. ‘Dette Director Lauren Turnbull made the announcement to the girls at yesterday’s morning workout with the help of the Bell Boys, who danced with top hats and canes to hint at the excitement. The squad of sophomores, juniors, and seniors will make the trip in January, where they will take dance classes from master teachers at the Alvin Ailey school and see as many shows as they can fit into their three days.

In addition to making plans for seeing the sights, the girls are now scrambling to raise the funds to travel, and they’re hoping you can help. They offer the most painless fundraiser ever – purchase Tom Thumb or Kroger gift cards at $50 each, and you’ll get $50 in groceries or gas in return. They’ll get a 5% kickback from the stores – enough to send the entire team to NYC. You can contact your favorite ‘Dette or go straight to Suzanna Voss, mom of Havilland and chairman of fundraising for the drill team. You can also order cards and congratulate the girls at the football games. Their moms are easy to spot – they’re the ones that get their popcorn ready well before halftime so they don’t have to miss a thing.
