UPDATE: Listen to the LH team captains on Advocate Radio
Remember the basketball game that wasn’t played between the Ticket radio station disc jockeys and the Lake Highlands girls’ team? Turns out it will be played after all, but without the school’s imprimatur. The station will play a team called the Lake Highlands Thunder. We have word from Michael Gruber at the Ticket that the game is set for 5:30 p.m. March 25 at Moody Coliseum on the SMU campus. Tickets will be free. "We can’t wait," emailed Gruber.
The girls won’t represent the high school, which will eliminate the difficulties cited by the LHHS administration when it canceled the game at the beginning of the month, saying: "Our team does not associate itself with anything that could be a detriment to their hard work and the players as positive role models in the community."
We’re working to track down more information, including the administration’s reaction. We also have a call in to the University Interscholastic League to find out how this sort of game jibes with UIL regulations.
