Last night, Texas A&M stunned Nebraska in a volleyball upset, with LH’s Tori Mellinger starting in the critical Libero position. "It was fantastic," she told me after the game. "We drew a huge crowd, and it was so loud I couldn’t hear myself think."

The Aggies, ranked 27th, defeated the Cornhuskers, ranked 6th, in College Station in their first conference home game. And Tori? Turns out she made the team as a walk-on, but was told this week that she now has a full scholarship.

The contest was televised live on ESPN. I asked Tori if her parents were there, but she said they stayed behind to watch the match on TV so they could hear the announcers’ opinions. The Aggies play next at Mizzou, and at UT on Sept. 30.
