Homeowners are upset after a jogger, robbed at gunpoint near White Rock Elementary Monday, had to drive to the police station to report the crime. After dialing 911 three times in an hour searching for help, dispatchers reported that no patrol cars were available to respond at the scene of the crime.

The gunman demanded the jogger’s iPhone, then took off. The victim has asked not to be identified, but Donald Wright, a neighbor of the victim, came upon the scene and called police.

“It happened just before 6 a.m.,” said Wright. “The robber was running towards the getaway car when I got to the corner of Shoreview and Lanshire.”

Calls were made to 911 at 5:58 a.m., 6:21 a.m. and 7 a.m. before dispatch finally told the victim the police were too busy to come out. The report would need to be made at the substation, they said.

New Dallas City Councilman Adam McGough says he is investigating the incident.

“I have been in communication with Dallas Police Department and [Deputy] Chief [Andrew] Acord all day today,” McGough posted on social media Monday. “DPD is in receipt of all info received thus far and is working every lead. Our neighborhoods will not tolerate this criminal activity and we are thankful to all who are on the watch. Stay vigilant. I believe we will apprehend this criminal soon.”

The robber is described as a black male in his early 20s. He escaped in a silver or light-colored Infiniti M four-door sedan that was driven by someone not seen.

Homeowners associations throughout Lake Highlands are encouraging their members to remain alert and keep security in mind.

The victim, luckily, is safe.
