Fire trucks responded to a blaze at the Lake Highlands Freshman Center just after 2 p.m. today. The flames, primarily confined to heavy curtains on the auditorium stage, were already mostly out thanks to quick work by band percussion teacher Matt Moore, who got started with a nearby fire extinguisher.
“There was quite a bit of smoke,” said Sam Ketchmark, who was leaving Wrangler practice as the four ladder trucks, two regular fire engines, 6 other fire vehicles and one ambulance arrived. “We were pretty surprised.”
Principal Bill Gallo reported no injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
