An apparent gas leak caused an explosion and fire about noon today at a house at 10612 Mapleridge Drive in Lake Highlands. Multiple fire trucks responded to fight the flames, and police blocked access from side streets and alleyways in every direction. Atmos Energy crews could be seen working all around the area.
Neighbors, drawn outside by the sound of the explosion and the sirens, stood beneath hovering news helicopters watching the commotion. The home is located just west of Plano Road, between Church and Walnut Hill.
