Richardson ISD has placed three bond proposals on the ballot for the Nov. 4 election. But how do they affect Lake Highlands?
Totaling $1.4 billion, RISD’s Bond 2025 package almost doubles the amount the district last asked voters for in 2021, when funding was secured to transition Lake Highlands and Forest Meadow Junior Highs into middle schools. With those projects completed, and the vast majority of the funds going towards construction outside of Dallas City Limits, Lake Highlands neighbors might wonder where they’ll see the impact of RISD’s record bond package.
The construction of three new middle schools (Westwood, Liberty and Parkhill) and renovation of three existing junior high buildings (West, Apollo and North) in Richardson will be funded if Proposition A, totaling nearly $1.34 billion, is passed. Some of West’s tentative reconstruction plans have generated controversy, as one proposal would see the middle school built on the site of the Richardson High School baseball field, which received major upgrades in 2023.
A more district-wide draw of the proposal comes with the potential building of a dedicated Career and Technical Education Center. The center will serve as a centralized hub for vocational training for an estimated 1600 – 2000 students from schools around the district.
Proposition B would pay for an update to the district’s technology inventory. Totaling $54, the proposal would fund purchases of devices for students, staff and administration. Proposition C covers stadium upgrades, such as turf replacement at Wildcat-Ram Stadium and the addition of ADA-compliant features, to the tune of $7.4 million.
