Tre Johnson followed up on a mixed NBA Preseason Debut Monday with a 10-point performance as Washington defeated the Knicks away from home.
The former Lake Highlands standout made his preseason debut over the weekend in a loss to the Raptors. Despite playing over 22 minutes, Johnson finished the game with just eight points while shooting 3-9 from the field. However, the No.4 overall pick had a strong showing off the glass, finishing with 7 total rebounds and three offensive boards.
On Monday, Johnson followed up on his debut performance with a decidedly more productive offensive showing against the Knicks. While he finished with 10 points as a starter, a mild improvement, he went 4-7 from the field and converted half (2/4) of his three-point attempts. He also logged three assists, all to Marvin Bagley III.
The six-foot-six guard impressed in NBA Summer League action following the draft, scoring 18 and 21 points before his run was cut short by a hamstring injury. He has chosen to wear No. 12 for the Wizards, as the No.20 he wore with Texas and Lake Highlands is currently taken by Alex Sarr.
Washington will next tip off in a preseason finale against the Pistons on Oct.16 at 6 p.m. Johnson will likely make his regular-season debut shortly after, with the Wizards scheduled to kick off the season against Milwaukee on Oct. 22.
Johnson was drafted after a breakout year at Texas which saw him take home SEC Freshman of the Year and All-SEC honors. Before college, Johnson led Lake Highlands to a state championship in 2023 before transferring to Link Academy in Missouri.
