Lake Highlands High School alum Che Hendrix has joined the football coaching staff for the University of Arkansas. He’s coaching safeties for the Razorbacks, who play in the SEC and have a 2-3 record so far this season.
Hendrix left his job as head coach at Boerne High School in January to become a defensive analyst and high school relations specialist for Arkansas. He was promoted in September when the Hogs fired head coach Sam Pittman and interim head coach Bobby Petrino shook up the staff.
During his time at Boerne, Hendrix led the Greyhounds to two regional championships over the past three seasons, including a 4A state final appearance in 2022. Prior to Boerne, he served as head coach at Frisco Heritage and assistant at Houston Westside, Sweetwater and Justin Northwest.
“While we are sad to see him leave Boerne High School,” Boerne ISD Athletic Director Stan Leech said at the time, “we are immensely proud of the legacy he leaves behind and grateful for the incredible impact he has had on our community.”
As a student athlete on the Wildcat football team, Hendrix played for the legendary Mike Zoffuto and his squad of assistant coaches — many of whom are now coaching at high schools and colleges across the country. When his Frisco Heritage squad won a playoff game at Wildcat Stadium, they kneeled out the remaining seconds on the clock in the wishbone formation as a tribute to Zoffuto — the coach best known for the play.
