October has finally arrived in Lake Highlands, and although warmer temperatures seem to be sticking around, there are still plenty of reasons to get out of the house this weekend.
Cane Rosso has a new seasonal pie on offer, the Wildcats are looking to keep the momentum going as they take on Irving MacArthur at home and awkward photoshoots are being offered at the Audelia Road Branch Library. So, here’s five things to do in (and around) Lake Highlands this weekend.
Don your turtleneck for awkward, 1980s-style photoshoots at the library
Audelia Road Branch Library | 10045 Audelia Road | Â Sunday from 10 a.m to noon.
For a few hours on Saturday, neighbors can be transported back to picture day circa 1983 with a themed and free photoshoot at the Audelia Road Branch Library. Participants are asked to wear their biggest hair and boxiest clothes, with shoots open to families, friend groups and individual subjects. Advance registration is recommended, although walk-ins will also be accepted.
Catch some Wildcat football at the Boneyard.
Wildcat-Ram Stadium | 9449 Church Road | Friday at 7p.m.
Lake Highlands (3-1, 1-0) will take on Irving MacArthur (2-2, 1-0) Friday night at home. The Wildcats are riding a wave of momentum behind breakout star and Highland Park transfer quarterback Chuck Smith, who was recently profiled by SportsDay. He leads a powerful offensive attack equipped with weapons like SMU commit Christian Rhodes and junior athlete Franklon Evans. Lake Highlands is coming off a dominating 41-13 victory over Richardson Pearce in which Smith threw for  243 yards and two touchdowns.
