According to a statement from police, a store clerk in the 9700 block of Walnut Hill Lane waved down patrol officers around 3 a.m. on June 22. The clerk notified officers that a knife-wielding individual had robbed the store and was still inside, police say.

Officers promptly entered the location, confronted the suspect and took him into custody, police say.

“Our officers didn’t hesitate – they responded quickly and made sure everyone stayed safe,” Interim Assistant Chief Richard Foy said in a statement. “Their swift actions helped prevent further danger to the public.”

The suspect was identified by police as 26-year-old Jose Arias Cruz. He was booked at 6:55 a.m. that day at Lew Sterrett Justice Center and charged with aggravated robbery, Dallas County Jail records show.

A bond of $20,000 was set for the initial felony, although Cruz’s jail records also show he is also under an immigration hold.
