The Lake Highlands Family YMCA has begun its annual summer food distribution program.
Every summer, the Y teams up with Brighter Bites and New Mount Zion Baptist Church to provide fresh, free produce for Lake Highlands neighbors. Fruits and vegetables available will differ from week to week. The distributions will take place at New Mount Zion each Thursday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Brighter Bites was originally founded in 2012 by Lisa Helfman, a mom who wanted to make nutritionally rich produce more widely available. In 2024, the nonprofit organization distributed over $20 million in food products across the country.
New Mount Zion Baptist Church is located at 9550 Shepherd Road.
