The filing window for Richardson ISD’s May 3 school board election opens tomorrow, Jan 15.
The seat for Single-member Districts 5, representing most of Lake Highlands proper, and 4, representing the Forest Lane Corridor, are both up for election this term. Candidates will have from Jan. 15 to Feb. 14 to file the required paperwork to be on the ballot. The deadline to file as a write-in candidate is Feb. 15.
To receive the paperwork required to file, prospective candidates must fill out this form. Packets can either be emailed to the candidate or picked up at the RISD Administration Building at 400 S. Greenville Ave.
Incumbent District 5 Rep. Rachel McGowan told the Advocate earlier this year that she intends to run for reelection. She previously won her first bid for election in 2022.
The next term will likely overlap with a host of contentious issues for the district, including the potential implementation of the state’s controversial Bluebonnet Curriculum and a growing legislative fight over school choice. The district is also in the midst of transitioning to a middle school model, although both junior highs in Lake Highlands have already reopened as middle schools.
