Multiple closures near I-635 and Skillman St. are expected to last until at least September.
District 10 Council Member Kathy Stewart announced by newsletter that beginning last Friday, the westbound I-635 frontage road approaching Skillman St. from Miller Road and the eastbound entrance ramp at Skillman St. would be closed for long-term temporary closures. Both closures are expected to remain in effect through September, weather permitting, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. Traffic will be rerouted in the meantime.
The closures are part of TXDOT’s 635 East Plan. According to TXDOT, the $1.7 billion dollar project aims to improve mobility and accessibility in order to respond to growing commuter traffic. Adding lanes and bridge improvements are some of the concrete action items named in the plan. The plan is expected to be “substantially complete” by 2025.
The project stems from Texas’s Clear Lanes initiative, which identifies and prioritizes the most congested roadways in the state.
