Saturday Night Live alum Kristen Wiig has agreed to star in the film, and she’s likely to be helpful to Baker. Wiig earned Academy Award and BAFTA nominations for writing the screenplay for Bridesmaids and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in that film.

Baker’s book tells of an overworked mom and successful attorney who, while house-hunting in an exclusive suburban neighborhood, meets a group of high-powered women with dutifully supportive husbands. Think Stepford Wives with a gender swap. When she agrees to take on a resident’s wrongful death case, she risks exposing secrets worth killing for.

Baker, an attorney herself, released her legal thriller Whisper Network in 2019. It shot up like a rocket when Reese Witherspoon chose it for her Hello Sunshine discussion group, and book clubs loved  aspects of her story about sexual harassment in the workplace. Baker has also written several young adult titles.

The Husbands is available for pre-order everywhere books are sold.
