Lake Highlands High School families were notified Wednesday after two separate incidents threatened campus security earlier that day.

In a letter to parents obtained by the Advocate, LHHS Principal Kerri Jones wrote that two incidents, “one on campus and one off campus,” had taken place on Oct 22 involving high school students. One incident led to a student being transported to the hospital, while the other led to the discovery of a firearm.

The first incident occurred on a bus en route to the high school earlier in the day. One student was taken to the after an altercation involving a paring knife on the bus, although his injuries were not apparent until arriving at school, according to a statement from Richardson ISD.

The injured student has been identified as 16-year-old Jaeshon Forte-Hall by Fox 4, who report the injury occured after he was stabbed in the neck. Forte-Hall is expected to recover.

Criminal charges will be filed against the offending student, who will also face expulsion under the RISD Student Code of Conduct, district officials told the Advocate in a statement.

“RISD continues to investigate the incident and if findings indicate that other students violated the district’s code of conduct, appropriate consequences will be enforced,” the statement reads.

The second incident occurred when school staff discovered a firearm in a student’s backpack after receiving a tip and initiating a search. Now facing a felony charge of unlawful possession of a weapon, the student — who can not be identified as they are a minor — was immediately arrested, according to RISD.

“We highly commend the student who saw something and said something because that helped us to take immediate action,” RISD officials wrote in a statement.

School officials did not feel the incident required implementation of schoolwide security protocol.

“The safety and security of students and staff continues to be our top priority,” the statement reads.
