October has finally arrived in Lake Highlands, and although warmer temperatures seem to be sticking around, there are still plenty of reasons to get out of the house this weekend.

Cane Rosso has a new seasonal pie on offer, the Wildcats are looking to keep the momentum going as they take on Irving MacArthur at home and awkward photoshoots are being offered at the Audelia Road Branch Library. So, here’s five things to do in (and around) Lake Highlands this weekend.

Don your turtleneck for awkward, 1980s-style photoshoots at the library

Audelia Road Library

For a few hours on Saturday, neighbors can be transported back to picture day circa 1983 with a themed and free photoshoot at the Audelia Road Branch Library. Participants are asked to wear their biggest hair and boxiest clothes, with shoots open to families, friend groups and individual subjects. Advance registration is recommended, although walk-ins will also be accepted.

Wildcat-Ram Stadium | 9449 Church Road | Friday at 7p.m.

Lake Highlands (3-1, 1-0) will take on Irving MacArthur (2-2, 1-0) Friday night at home. The Wildcats are riding a wave of momentum behind breakout star and Highland Park transfer quarterback Chuck Smith, who was recently profiled by SportsDay. He leads a powerful offensive attack equipped with weapons like SMU commit Christian Rhodes and junior athlete Franklon Evans. Lake Highlands is coming off a dominating 41-13 victory over Richardson Pearce in which Smith threw for  243 yards and two touchdowns.

Shop fresh at the White Rock Farmers Market

White Rock United Methodist Church | 8450 Old Gate Lane | 8 a.m. to noon 

Organized by Good Local Markets, the White Rock Farmers Market gives neighbors a chance to browse fresh produce and local goods each Saturday in White Rock United Methodist Church’s parking lot. Markets will be held each Sunday until the end of December, when WRFM goes on hiatus until March.

Each month, Cane Rosso unveils a new seasonal pizza, pasta and cocktail. True to the season, October’s pizza comes topped with pumpkin mascarpone, hot honey sausage & kale. Pumpkin flavors also feature heavily with a pumpkin spice old fashioned and pumpkin gnocchi, the seasonal pasta and cocktail for October.

NorthPark debuted its annual pumpkin patch in the mall’s courtyard this week. Designed by Harold Leidner Landscape Architects and NorthPark’s landscape team, the patch presents a myriad of pumpkin shapes and colors arranged into a small house and other structures. Family photoshoots are available for $15, with advance registration recommended.
