Earlier this year, the Advocate took a deep dive into the history, development and future of the Highland Meadows neighborhood ahead of an exhibition at the  Architecture and Design Exchange Downtown. On Oct 25, interested neighbors can participate in a guided tour of the architecturally significant neighborhood while supporting preservation efforts in the area.

The event will take attendees on a walking tour of the Mediterranean Gardens and Sylvania Dells neighborhoods, two of the first subdivisions developed in the early 1950s. Attendees will learn about the initial development of the neighborhood, the architects behind the homes and the families who commissioned them.

An eight-person golf cart will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Comprising 1,390 homes and 17 subdivisions, Highland Meadows hosts some of the most striking examples of midcentury architecture in Dallas, with early subdivisions like Mediterranean Gardens and Sylvania Dells designed by notable architects like Viktor and Aladar Olgyay

Tickets cost $20 and can be purchased on the Highlands Meadows Neighborhood Association’s website. Proceeds will go to supporting ongoing preservation efforts in Highland Meadows.
