From 5-8 p.m. on Sept 15, neighbors can head to the Lakeridge Center brewery to raise funds for the North Texas Wildlife Center, a Lake Highlands neighbor-led animal rescue and rehabilitation nonprofit.

Some neighbors may remember the nonprofit’s past visits to the brewery. In the past, Coconut, the White Opossum, has been the center’s primary event ambassador at Vector (the brewery has previously hosted a birthday party in his honor). This time, however, the center will be represented by Blossom the Opossum, a permitted educational ambassador. Attendees will be unable to hold Blossom.

Staff will also be on site to provide information on NTWC’s mission and fundraising efforts, in addition to collecting donations.

In June, it was announced that the center’s future might be in jeopardy after the City of Plano ordered staff to vacate its current facility due to zoning issues. After less than two months of fundraising, the organization reached its initial campaign goal for a permanent home in August, NTWC leadership recently told the Advocate.

The event is being held as part of North Texas Giving Day. To check out a non-exhaustive list of Lake Highlands organizations participating this year, check out our article here.
