Oak Highlands Brewery is gearing up to host a grand opening celebration this Saturday at its new location in Richardson.
In April, it was announced that the Lake Highlands neighbor-owned brewery would move its production facility and taproom to a new space in Richardson’s CORE District. Things seem to be moving forward rapidly at the new spot, with OHB set to host a grand opening for the location on May 31.Â
The partners behind the brewery, Brad Mall and Derrin Williams,  have been building anticipation for the opening over the last week with a waterfall release of planned attractions. On May 21, the first major draw was announced via Facebook: Brix Barbecue of Fort Worth will serve up brisket all day long for the opening, and what’s more, the Brix Barbecue food truck will become a full-time staple at the new location, open seven days a week.
OHB has a reputation as a dog-friendly brewery and has hosted animal rescue groups at its Brockwood location in the past. That ethos, it seems, is carrying over into Richardson. On May 23, it was announced that staff from White Rock Dog Rescue will be on-site for the grand opening with a group of rescues and puppies.
Live music will be provided by The Lab, an East Dallas-based group specializing in classic rock ‘n’ roll.
The grand opening will also feature giveaways. What’s up for grabs? An inflatable stand-up paddle board and a fly fishing rod, both donated by Orvis. Neighbors can stop by the event anytime from noon to 7 p.m. to enter for a chance to win. Entrants do not need to be on-site at the time of the drawing to be eligible for a prize.
The Richardson spot is right down the street from Lockwood Distilling Co., which donated a few used bourbon barrels to its new neighbors for a special bourbon barrel Oktoberfest draft set to be tapped at the event. OHB has also unveiled a special pint glass commemorating the move ahead of Saturday.
When it opened in 2015, OHB was the lone brewery operating in our neighborhood. A decade later, the business may be moving down the road, but it still retains its Lake Highlands roots and branding. A farewell party for the Brockwood Road location will be held on July 26.
The grand opening will take place from noon to 10 p.m. on May 31. The new location can be found at 10484 Brockwood Road.
