Held in collaboration with Carter BloodCare, a major nonprofit blood care center based in North Texas, the blood drive will take place on May 27 at the Lake Highlands Y. Those who donate will be given a beach towel, snacks and drinks.

The drive runs from 3-6:30 p.m. Sign-ups for time slots will be available through the end of the day Monday, but walk-ins are also welcome. The donations will take place at an on-site Carter BloodCare mobile unit.

Carter BloodCare is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization with roots going back to the 1950s. The organization as it is known today was created in the 1990s after a merger of two local blood centers, Carter Blood Center (founded in 1959, served Fort Worth) and the Wadley Research Institute and Blood Bank (founded in 1951, served Dallas). Today, the organization distributes more than 440,000 units of blood annually throughout North Texas.
