The honors were announced Thursday ahead of National Teacher Day on May 1. Principals at the secondary and elementary levels were each honored in their own classification. In the Lake Highlands Learning Community, assistant principal Rebecca Herrera of Forest Lane Academy was honored as the Elementary Assistant Principal of the Year.
Herrera has worked for RISD for eight years, spending the last three at FLE. She graduated from the University of St. Thomas in Houston with her bachelor’s degree before earning a dual master’s degree in education from Dallas Baptist University and is currently pursuing a doctorate in education at Vanderbilt University.
“Mrs. Herrera believes in equity, excellence, and empowerment for all and is grateful to serve the FLA community,” her Richardson ISD biography reads.
