Former Lake Highlands High School Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Lonnie Jordan is returning to Richardson ISD, the district announced Wednesday.
The district announced in an X post that Jordan, who led LHHS’ athletic department and football program from 2015 to 2023, will serve as RISD’s newest executive director of athletics beginning in May. He will replace Leslie Slovak, who is retiring and has served as the district’s top athletic official for over a decade. Slovak was the first woman to be named to the role.

In Jordan’s time as athletic director, LHHS won a state championship in boys’ basketball. He led the team to its first playoff win in a decade in 2019 and finished with a 55-34 head coaching record when he left LHHS in 2023. Jordan previously coached as an assistant from 2007-2010.
“A lot of the success at Lake Highlands can be credited to his leadership. He’s of the utmost character. Working under him, you want to meet that standard and do things the right way and treat people the right way,” Boys’ Head Basketball Coach Joe Duffield said of Jordan in 2023. “He’s been a big role model to me — even back when we were coaching football together. He and [assistant coach] Jeff Smith were two guys that I really looked up to in how they taught in the classroom, how they handled kids, how they coached and who they were as people. They are definitely role models to me.”
After leaving LHHS, Jordan served as director of athletics for Highland Park ISD. After one year in the position, he left HPISD for the same role at Plano ISD.
